GLCC Sailors Featured in SAIL Magazine

GLCC members Bill and Sylvia Mueller spent the last 19 years building their 52-foot cutter Eos, and have now successfully embarked on extended cruising. You can read about their building project in the Flagships Section of the November 2009 issue of SAIL Magazine. 

Ohio Atty General to Appeal Court Decision on Lake Erie waterfront land ownership

Ohio Attorney General to appeal court decision on Lake Erie waterfront land rights. 

The state modified land  boundaries based  on the waterline. Whether  waterline was set high, or low, changed your lotsize. There used to be some implied access priviledge, granting access to public water. (Fisher persons could be within 15(?) feet of waterline)  Marina  operators  and  boat  house owners  were also advised to seek submerged land leases for land they already occupied.  They  sued to get  their "land" back.

Congress targets Asian carp problem

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate voted Thursday to provide $6 million for continuing efforts to thwart the Asian carp from penetrating the Great Lakes in what environmentalists fear would destroy much of the existing wildlife in the world's largest surface freshwater resource. More here.

Nature Conservancy Buys Wilson Island Group

A group of eight Lake Superior islands, totaling more than 4,700 acres, will be protected under a recent $7 million bi-national purchase by the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) and the Nature Conservancy. The Government of Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources provided financial support to make it possible.

History of the LCYC Cruisers Net

Roy Eaton, who broadcasts the Cruisers Net in the North Channel, has posted its history from 2004-2009.  There were over 5800 call-ins this summer from over 1000 different boats.  With new equipment his reach is much further. The Cruisers Net is sponsored by the Little Current Yacht Club and broadcasts from the Anchor Inn.  Click here to read the history.

#1-We had trouble with cell coverage in Little Current, even at the Anchor Inn; however 1/2 way up the hill to the grocery stores, we received excellent coverage, just across from the LCBO. I made several calls there sitting on a comfortable rock...

Lake Superior Rally Another Success

16 boats and several cars attended the Lake Superior Rally, August 7, through Sunday, August 9, at the friendly Madeline Island Yacht Club (MIYC), La Pointe, WI, which went out of its way to welcome our group. Some GLCC members arrived from extended cruising in the wilderness of the Canadian North Shore and Isle Royale. For a full report about the event, please click here.
