Welcome to our first online, digital edition of Lifeline. After months of working on the details of the format and the technology needed to make this happen, you are now reading the 1st edition.

We hope you find our new Lifeline useful and professional in its appearance, timely in its information, and something you look forward to receiving each month. Please reach out to me personally with any comments. I’m happy to hear compliments, criticisms, and/or suggestions for improvements. We will continue to adjust the Lifeline over the next several months, and your input is truly valued. Send comments to me at doug@dougandpam.com.

Second, if you’re like Pam and I, you are doing some armchair planning and navigation for the 2024 cruising season. I highly recommend your cruising plans include the GLCC Annual Rendezvous July 14–18. It will be “Up North” at Escanaba, Mich. (M-101). Marilyn Kinsley, Lori Sprague and Craig Shantz are creating a wonderful event for our GLCC members.

Escanaba is in northern Lake Michigan, near Door County and the Bay de Noc area. Escanaba is known for its natural beauty, world class trails for hiking and bicycling (bring your bike), beautiful beaches, local brewpubs, wineries and world-class restaurants. What’s not to like?

Close by are some great cruising areas, particularly Door County and the Fayette State Park (M-91). If you are coming, make your reservations early, and you may also want to make dock reservations at nearby locations (especially Fayette State Park with a limited number of slips).

If you want to keep your costs down in Escanaba, you can skip the dock and either anchor or pick up a mooring ball in a very protected harbor. There will be a dinghy dock available.

While you’re doing your summer planning, also consider other GLCC lake-oriented events. The Lake Erie Rally will again draw over 70 members for a “Psychedelic Sixties” themed event over Father’s Day weekend at Middle Bass Island, Ohio (E-18.5), with Dave and Lori Guertal as hosts extraordinaire.

The club also will host rallies in Georgian Bay, Lake Superior, Lake Ontario, the Lake St Clair area, and more. Check the GLCC website calendar for the latest information.

And lastly, remember that the GLCCSchool is now free to members, so sign up for a class.
