Rendezvous ‘24 Is in Escanaba

July 14–18

Escanaba, Mich. (M-101)

UPDATE: GLCC dockage and hotel room holds will expire April 15. After April 15, dockage and hotel rooms are released to the general public.

RENDEZVOUS EVENTS: In addition to the items mentioned in the April “From the Bridge” column by Commodore Doug Jackson, there is a new take on the Sail vs. Power competition. Also, this year is the kickoff the first annual Cornhole Tournament which will incorporate team strategies while providing ample opportunity for the Fleet to kibitz. Don’t miss out! Register today!

Escanaba, Mich., is the site for the 2024 GLCC Rendezvous July 14–18. Don’t miss this wonderful cruising area, which includes Wisconsin’s Door County and Michigan’s Fayette State Park.

Many people know Jeff Daniels’ popular play, Escanaba in Da Moonlight, but this historic Upper Peninsula city is about much more than deer camp. The unspoiled waterfront and quiet, cozy harbor are a treat for boaters of all types.

Well-known by fishermen, Escanaba is also sought out by cruisers looking to escape the crowds. Escanaba is also known for its beaches, hiking and bicycling trails, brewpubs and wineries, and dining.

Escanaba’s municipal marina offers slips, mooring balls and an anchorage in the south end of the basin. Bring your bicycle or borrow one from the marina to explore the paved paths along lakefront Ludington Park where you can enjoy a concert, tennis courts and a playground.

A short side trip takes you to the municipal beach and Aronson Island, which offers great birding and views of Little Bay de Noc. History buffs can learn about the iron and shipping industries at the Sand Point Lighthouse and the Delta County Historical Society next to the marina.

Ludington Street is Escanaba’s downtown. The 1864 House of Ludington anchors the east end. The hotel’s many famous guests include Thomas Edison, John Phillip Sousa and Johnny Cash. House of Ludington is the venue for the GLCC Commodore’s Dinner.

Many more local shops and restaurants await exploration further up Ludington Street. Be sure to pick up a locally made Yooper Bar at Sayklly’s Confectionery.

Rendezvous organizers expect this location to be popular, so club members are encouraged to make reservations early. Attending this rendezvous will also give boaters the opportunity to explore Door County, the northern islands (Beaver Island (M-2) and/or the Manitou Islands (M-14.5 / M-15)) or take the “Ritz Tour” (Harbor Springs, Bay Harbor, Charlevoix and/or Petoskey. Check out this fun article about the area!

REGISTRATION FEE for GLCC member(s) & guests: $250 USD/person

DOCKAGE: Escanaba Municipal Marina / www.escanaba.org / 17 Beaumier Way, Escanaba, MI 49829 / 906-786-9614.

Rather than using DNR, or Dockwa, your Rendezvous slip reservation will be secured directly from your GLCC Event Registration Form based on your vessel dimensions/requirements. In addition to slips, there are a limited number of moorings for vessels 35 feet, or less, at a rate of $20/day, or harbor anchorage for $10/day. Mooring and Anchorage rates include marina amenities of showers, restroom, laundry facilities, WiFi, and bicycle usage. Dockage is reserved until April 15th, for GLCC members who have registered for the event. Beginning April 16th, the marina reservations will be open to the general public and GLCC member dockage will be based on availability. You will receive your dockage confirmation and assignment in early May directly from the marina, but you do not make any payment to the Escanaba Municipal Marina until your day of arrival.
