Tuesday in the GLCCSchool – Howling Winds: Misadventures of Marine Mascots
Pets have for centuries been valued crew members. Master story teller, Ric Mixter, has spent months sorting through newspapers and lifesaving reports pulling fact from fiction. And next Tuesday night he brings us the stories of nine Lake Superior shipwrecks, their maritime mascots and their sea going owners. Please join Ric for Howling Winds: Misadventures of Marine Mascots.
Among other stories you will hear about Capt. Dick Simpell heroics to save his bulldog. And the story of the puppy Rough, the sole survivor of the 1895 wreak of the Chicora. Join historian, author and diver Ric Mixter as he tells us the great real-life stories of these faithful sea going companions
Ric Mixter logs thousands of miles each year as one of the most requested Great Lakes historians. From archive footage to new underwater images of shipwrecks, Ric’s moving picture library is unmatched. He has written dozens of articles and has hosted over 30 shows on PBS stations airing all around the Midwest and Canada. He’s even been featured as an expert on the Discovery and History Channels. Despite all his professional accomplishments, Ric says his greatest productions are his three kids, all of whom are certified divers.
Howling Winds: Misadventures of Marine Mascots is just one of three webinars Ric will present this season for the GLCCSchool. Next week Ric will present his other brand new webinar – Bottled Goodbyes. On February 18th Ric will present his third webinar of this season The History and Future of the Soo Locks.
