Reserve now for June’s Mackinac Island Rally

The Club has a unique opportunity to schedule a GLCC group event on Michigan’s Mackinac Island (H-77). Rally organizers hope members can join us as a stand-alone destination, or while on their way to the Rally at the Soo, the North Channel, the Lake Superior Rendezvous, or other cruising destinations.
Arriving by boat:
As per previous communications, if there is no slip availability at Mackinac Island, consider making reservations at Michigan’s Mackinaw City or St. Ignace marinas, both of which allow easy access to the ferry and an enjoyable ride over to the island.
Note that Mackinac Island is a harbor of refuge, meaning the marina keeps a number of slips available and released daily to boaters currently in slips and wanting an extension, or for boats arriving into the harbor without reservations. If docking at Mackinac Island is desired, you might consider reserving one night, Sunday, June 21 (there are slips available for this night as of the writing of this article), so your boat is physically at the marina and then request an extension in the morning (typically starting at 8 a.m.). Once you have a slip, you can request extensions each day from the same number of refuge-type slips.
Also, please check out the link to summer flotilla plans in this newsletter.
Hotel accommodations:
Rally organizers are working on reserving room blocks, but that is still in process. If looking for hotel accommodations on the island, it is highly recommended that you make reservations immediately, as hotels are typically at capacity during the season at this popular vacation site.
The Mackinac Island Rally is chaired by Rear Commodore Dee McClure (waterbeachsail@gmail.com). More information and registration for the Rally will be provided as the schedule is developed.
