Promise: The GLCC has a great summer planned
I’m really looking forward to summer, as we all are, and nothing excites me more than the prospect of Rendezvous 2026.
Registration is now open for the exciting 2026 GLCC Rendezvous in western Lake Superior. The team has prepared a terrific event, and excitement for cruising Lake Superior is building.
Several “on-the-way” rallies are also being planned, including stops at Mackinac Island and Sault Ste. Marie. Be sure to check out this month’s Lifeline cruising article on Michigan’s unique Houghton-Hancock area on the UP’s Keweenaw Peninsula. This Lifeline also offers an article specifically on the July 10-14 Rendezvous, at Barkers Island Marina at the Twin Ports of Duluth, MN, and Superior, WI.
Earlier this month, Club members like me enjoyed two related GLCCSchool classes: The South Shore of Lake Superior by past Commodore Niels Jensen and The Canadian Shore of Lake Superior by Dave Carr. Both were excellent, and I encourage you to check out the recordings. GLCCSchool webinar offerings are free to members, and available anytime. Be sure to take advantage of this great benefit of your membership.
Speaking of GLCCSchool, the hits just keep on coming. In March, be sure to check out such offerings as:
● GLCC Summer 2026 Flotilla walk-thru on March 5
● North Channel Ports and the Little Current Cruisers Net with GLCC Port Captain Roy Eaton
● Diesel Maintenance series with Jim Zima
● Cruising Lake Huron with Rear Commodore Rob and Kelly Hillman
These free-to-members GLCCSchool classes are a great way to enjoy cold-weather boating and get prepared for the new season.
Also in this month’s Lifeline, read about our Club members activities at the 2026 Toronto International Boat Show. Despite plenty of snow and cold, the Club team had great success. I couldn’t make the Friday night dinner at the National Yacht Club, but I hear a great time was had by all. Thanks to Rear Commodore Dave Spencer and Port Captain Cynthia Sunstrum for leading the effort, and to everyone who supported the show.
Our April Launch gathering and Board of Directors meeting will be in Grand Bend, ON, led by Rear Commodore Dave Spencer. It promises to be a fun event in an interesting location. Registration is now open on our website.
Lastly, let me offer a couple of reminders.
● A donation to the Great Lakes Foundation may make sense for you this time of year. The Foundation does great work supporting projects across all the Great Lakes, both in the U.S. and Canada.
● Don’t forget our member referral discount. If you know someone who would enjoy being part of GLCC, be sure to tell them about it. It’s a win-win opportunity for everyone. Details are on the website.
Karen and I will be off to Colorado and Utah in March to spend time with family and friends. We hope to see many of you in Grand Bend when we return from our skiing adventure.
Wishing you fair winds and following seas.
