Attendees watched as pilots inflated their balloons on the marina lawn. The event featured two hot air balloon launches. Also among the wide range of amenities and activities were food trucks, craft vendors, family fun, tethered balloon rides and art classes.

A gazebo was decked out with the GLCC cruising banner, enticing several non-member boaters to stop to and learn more about the Club. With appetizers and beverages in hand, attendees enjoyed the night glow event where hot air balloons provided a spectacular display of colors, timed to themed music, against the backdrop of a stunning sunset.

Members spending the night at the marina were treated to an early Sunday morning launch against the picturesque backdrop of Bay Harbor. One enterprising balloon pilot decided the conditions were excellent to try a “touch and go,” where the balloon intentionally touches the water’s surface before lifting up to several hundred feet and finding wind currents that took the balloon over Lake Michigan before drifting back to shore.

Based on strong interest, this event will occur again next year. Reminders will be sent in January for those who wish to reserve dockage early for the event.
