It’s easy – and smart – to know rules, regulations

As your cruising plans take shape this summer, consider taking advantage of the free vessel inspections offered by the USCG Auxiliary or the Power Squadron. We have several club members who are qualified to do the inspection. It only takes a few minutes, and it’s nice to make sure your vessel complies with all the rules and regulations.

In a similar rules-and-regulations vein, if you are a US boat heading to the North Channel for the Rendezvous (or just to go cruising in those beautiful Canadian waters) remember you are a guest in Canada.

We all share the waters of the Great Lakes, and we all need to remember to respect each country’s rules and laws. Our boat is made in France, so there is ample wine storage in our boat’s “wine cellar” (it’s actually a wine locker) but we work diligently to make sure we don’t carry any more than allowed when we cross into Canada and then back to the United States. In this Lifeline newsletter we have 3 different articles relating to cross border rules (with weblinks) addressing everything from checking in requirements to food provisioning and requirements for pets.

By the way, if you'll be attending the Wilderness Rally Jr, Sundowners are on us in Harbor Island this July. (https://www.glcclub.com/2025-wilderness-rally-jr

Finally: Your club needs you!

We are actively recruiting new Port Captains, Rear Commodores, and Committee members. It’s not a big lift in terms of time, and, speaking from personal experience, it’s rewarding to get to know more members and stay engaged with our boating and cruising community. And you get a cool flag to fly.

Please let anyone on the leadership team know if you have any interest in giving back to our community.

See you in Little Current!
