Ice and snow don’t stop GLCC’s progress
As the holidays approach and the weather cools, the GLCC remains active.
GLCC SCHOOL: The GLCCSchool has launched its 2025/2026 season with an impressive selection of free classes for members, thanks to Mark Gagyi and the team. After a brief holiday break, more classes will begin in January 2026. View the schedule and register here: https://www.glccschool.com/open-classes. Classes continue to be added, so check back often.
We encourage everyone to take advantage of these educational opportunities, whether you’re a seasoned sailor or just starting out. The variety of topics offered ensures there’s something for everyone to enhance their boating knowledge and skills. Be sure to mark your calendar and invite fellow cruisers to join in these learning experience.
WELCOME NEW LEADERS: This month, the GLCC welcomes new Rear Commodores Larry Hunter-Blank, Dee McClure and Nelson Stone, along with new board member Bill Ditty. Look for more information about each of them in future editions of Lifeline or on our website. Thanks to all four for volunteering to help lead our Club forward.
SPECIAL TIMES IN TORONTO: The Toronto International Boat Show and GLCC Members Meetup Dinner in Toronto is next month. The dinner is Friday, Jan. 23, and will be at the National Yacht Club (O-45). Karen and I greatly enjoyed last year’s boat show and dinner. We look forward to seeing everyone again next month. Here is the link to the dinner: 2026 Toronto Meetup Dinner All GLCC members and their guests are invited to attend if you find yourself in Toronto in January. It is a great way to help bridge the gap between boating seasons.
GREAT LAKES FOUNDATION: As we approach the end of the year, please consider the Great Lakes Foundation in any end-of-year giving plans. The Great Lakes Foundation is an IRS 501(c)(3) charity. It is dedicated to preserving the richness of wilderness cruising areas of the Great Lakes and fostering the art and culture of cruising. Past Commodore Doug Jackson leads this very worthwhile organization. Please reach out to Doug if you have an interest in learning more, or click here to donate now.
May the New Year bring you fair winds, smooth sailing, and memorable adventures both on and off the water. Thank you for being an essential part of our vibrant GLCC community, and we look forward to another wonderful year together.
Joe
