However you look at it, 2025 was a success
Last year, our club hosted many successful events, including our annual Rendezvous in Little Current, our annual meeting in Grand Rapids, MI, and many successful rallies and meetups across all the Great Lakes. Special thanks go to all volunteers who contributed their time and effort, making these events memorable for everyone. We finished the year in good financial shape, our membership retention remains strong, and our community of cruisers has grown stronger. It's heartening to see all the new faces joining our ranks.
Upcoming Events
As we move into the new year, we have a series of events designed to enhance your boating skills and foster our spirit of cruising camaraderie:
- GLCCSchool: The team again has some great classes scheduled this month, including ones focused on navigation skills, lithium battery tips, and solar power protocols. Some additional highlights for January include Cruising Grand Traverse Bay, Cruising Lake Superior, the Trent Severn Waterway, Georgian Bay and the Thirty Thousand Island area. Some armchair summer cruising is just the ticket for a cold winter night!
- April Launch: Mark your calendars for April Friday 10 to Sunday, April 12. Dave Spencer and team are looking forward to showing off the great sights in and around Grand Bend, ON. You won’t want to miss this fun event kicking off our sailing/cruising season in a really cool location.
- 2026 Annual Rendezvous: Go west for an amazing ’26 Rendezvous in Lake Superior. Circle the dates on your calendar and start making plans to attend July 10–14. Flotillas and welcoming harbor hosts en route are being formed to share the way across Lake Superior. Stay tuned for more details. Too far or not enough time to attend? Consider coming by land and staying at the adjacent Barkers Island Inn (https://www.barkersislandinn.com/)
Volunteers needed
Our club thrives on the dedication of our members. To those of you who recently volunteered to help lead our Club forward, thank you for stepping up. If you are interested in learning more about how you too can help, please reach out to Doug Jackson or anyone on the leadership team if you would like to help our Club.
Talk to us!
As always, your thoughts and suggestions are invaluable in shaping the future of the Club. Please reach out with any ideas or concerns you have, whether it's about improving our events, our member benefits or any new programs you'd like to see introduced. It’s our club, and we all want to make it a success. Call, email, or text your Port Captains, Rear Commodores, leadership team, or our office staff, Yvonne and Lynn (who really run the place.)
A closing thought
Let’s embrace the new year with excitement and determination. Together, we can ensure that our Club remains a vibrant community for all members. Here’s wishing you all fair winds and following seas in 2026!
Warm regards,
Joe
