HAPPY SEPTEMBER, EVERYONE

Our historic 60th anniversary Rendezvous was in Little Current, Ont., this July. It was an event to remember. The Rendezvous chairpersons — Port Captains Debby and Jib Turner, along with Vice Commodore Craig Shantz -- ran a highly successful Rendezvous. Congratulations to them, and thanks to all who attended. It was great to see many new faces and renew acquaintances with old friends.

Coming up in October, the GLCC will present at the Annapolis Power and Annapolis Sailboat shows Oct. 2 and 9, respectively. Our topic: The Great Lakes offers excellent freshwater cruising, scenic destinations, and extensive open-water cruising.  If you are doing the Great Loop or just cruising the Lakes, this is a seminar you won’t want to miss:

•    Learn about crossing the big lakes Huron and Michigan, with favorite stops along the way.

•    Learn about the rich sense of community and valuable resources available through the Great Lakes Cruising Club.

•    Learn more about some specific port stops from Cleveland, Detroit, into the North Channel, Mackinac Island, Lake Michigan’s Beaver Island, the Lake Michigan shoreline, Chicago and beyond.

If you are planning to attend either show and want to join us (or even help present,) please reach out.

Looking further ahead, the GLCC will have its 2025 General Membership meeting the weekend of Oct. 17-19 in Grand Rapids, Mich. It’s chaired by Rear Commodore Milt Fuehrer, with Mark Lifter and Rob Hillman. Registration is now open!  Look for more details in this month’s Lifeline.  It looks to be another great event and I hope to see you there. We have several officer and board elections to consider, so it’s an important meeting to attend if you can.

On that note, please consider filling a larger role at the Great Lakes Cruising Club. We have several officer, board, and volunteer openings coming up soon, including Rear Commodore, treasurer, committee chair, and others. These are great opportunities to do more with a great group of people while giving back to our club. Please contact Doug Jackson or anyone on the Club Bridge if you have any interest or just want to learn more. It really is a fairly light time commitment and can be very rewarding.

I wish you fair winds and following seas, and, as always, I hope you to stay safe on the water.

Joe
