The Great Lakes Foundation is the GLCC’s way to allow members to help Great Lakes cruising, today and into the future. It’s a members-driven nonprofit, and any member can become directly involved.

Something members may not realize is that they can help identify potential grant recipients, thus making a personal difference on the Lakes. It’s easy to do.

The Great Lakes Cruising Club’s Great Lakes Foundation supports many worthwhile projects in Club members’ home cruising areas. At last count, the Foundation has provided more than $380,000 in grants to organizations throughout the Great Lakes who work to preserve wilderness cruising grounds and otherwise foster the art and culture of cruising.

Here’s how to get started:

  • Go to the Great Lakes Foundation page on the GLCC website and familiarize yourself with the types of projects that have received grants in the past. That will give you a broad understanding of how any potential applicant could meet the criteria for a grant.
  • Check out your marina, yacht club, city or town and ask if there is any group out there that is making a difference that could benefit from a helping hand.
  • Talk to any prospective local recipient and encourage them to apply for the grant. The information on how to do that is available on the Foundation website (it’s not behind the paywall). That site includes the application form (you can print it out for them if you like).

It’s that simple. Members of the Great Lakes Foundation Committee are available to help with an application. Just contact the office and someone will get back to you.

Your efforts could go a long way to improving the cruising experience for the entire community and help support a worthy cause in your own backyard.

Please consider donating to the Great Lakes Foundation so that we can continue our efforts to keep the Great Lakes great!
