FROM THE CHAPLAIN: A new season bring its own sense of joy

By GLCC Chaplain Eric D. Tucker
At long last, the time is finally here. After months of winter layup, quiet marinas, and boats resting on land, we stand at the beginning of a new boating season. For many of us, there is a deep sense of joy in seeing boats prepared, lifted, and returned to the water. It is more than routine spring commissioning; it feels like renewal. The familiar sights of launch season stir something within us, reminding us that the waiting season does not last forever.
This time of year carries a message far beyond our boats. It reminds us that life itself moves in seasons. There are times when we feel still, covered, and set aside for a while. Yet even in those moments, preparation is taking place. Then, in the right time, what has been still begins to move again. What has been waiting is given fresh opportunity. What seemed dormant comes back to life.
That is part of the beauty of April. It arrives with quiet encouragement that it is never too late to start something new and fresh in our lives. We often associate new beginnings with the start of a new year, but the truth is that any season can become a starting place. A fresh beginning can happen whenever we are willing to trust God, take the next step, and move forward with hope. It may be a new goal, a renewed relationship, a deeper commitment, a healthier perspective, or the courage to do something we have put off for too long.
As we begin the 2026 boating season, this is a wonderful time to reflect on what may be ready for renewal in our own lives. Perhaps there is a dream waiting to be revisited, a joy waiting to be rediscovered, or a step of faith waiting to be taken. The launch of a boat is a powerful image: What was on land is set back where it belongs, ready once again for movement, purpose, and adventure. In many ways, our lives need that same reminder. We are not meant to remain in one place forever. We are called to keep growing, keep trusting, and keep moving into what lies ahead.
My prayer for all of us this season is that, as our boats return to the water, our hearts will also be lifted with fresh expectation. May this season bring not only safe cruising and enjoyable days on the water, but also renewed purpose, gratitude, and peace. And may we all be reminded that with God, it is never too late for a new beginning.
Blessings for a safe, joyful, and refreshing start to the 2026 boating season.
