Bayfield Award is Club’s highest cruising honor

By Admiral Bayfield Award Committee Chair Bill Rohde
At this year’s GLCC Annual General Membership meeting on Oct. 11, Commodore Joe McKeown announced Larry and Elizabeth Hunter-Blank as the latest recipients of the Club’s Admiral Bayfield Award.
The Admiral Bayfield Award is the Club’s highest cruising honor, vetted by the Club’s Admiral Bayfield Committee and approved by the Commodore. Awardees are certified as having encompassed at least 5,000 cruising miles across all five Great Lakes under one’s own command, and satisfying other award requirements.
Larry and Elizabeth Hunter-Blank, of S/V QEII, were unable to attend this year’s annual meeting. In their absence, they prepared an outstanding short video with chart clips and photos to highlight their extensive Bayfield Award travels. The video can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJN9GYae7hs.
Their video, while above and beyond the Club’s Bayfield Award requirements, also
includes footage from the Hunter-Blanks’ DownEast Circle cruise (also beyond the
Club’s award requirements) which they completed in conjunction with their Admiral
Bayfield travels.
The award committee hopes Larry and Elizabeth’s video serves to spur interest in pursuing this prestigious award. For more information on Bayfield Award requirements, click HERE.
