Colonel Joseph Mustard (Retired) stood in front of the mirror adjusting his tie. He hated wearing a suit and tie. Too fussy!  Not only that, he had never been good at tying ties so it always took him numerous tries to finally get it right.  Ridiculous waste of time to dress up for Wednesday afternoon cocktails at the club.  That was another thing..”The Club”.  How pretentious sounding. He liked beer but at The Club all the men drank cocktails while the women drank wine. Once he’d ordered a beer and people looked at him as if he were drinking toilet water. Too much hoity-toity for him.  He still thought of himself as a “regular Joe” as he’d been before he joined the Army. Although he still enjoyed training others at Camp Perry, a lot had changed in the world since he’d become a top marksman at a young age. Too many bad actors out there.  Too much deception.  Too many people thought the ends justified the means.  Maybe it was time to teach someone a lesson.

Tammy Markham popped the lock on the back of the SUV and began unloading groceries. It was not even noon yet it had already been a long day that had started with “her majesty’s” early morning phone call. Of course, her majesty was only acting on an even earlier phone call received from “his highness”.  Her majesty was the cook, Maggie Turner, and his highness was their employer, Edward Sinclair.  Tammy was smart enough to not call them that to their faces. Bouncing around foster homes her whole life, early on she’d learned the value of keeping her mouth shut.  But sometimes she couldn’t help let a smirk come across her face every once in a while as she spoke to them.  “Yes (your majesty), I’ll get right on peeling the carrots and potatoes” or “Beg your pardon (your highness) but the weather is frightfully hot today.”  Tammy found herself sounding like a serving wench in 19th century England.  Not surprising since she felt that way.  She furiously puffed away on her cigarette as she schlepped bags of groceries from the car to the back entrance of the house.  She was sick and tired of being at Cook’s beck and call. Why wouldn’t Maggie come out and help?  Probably thinks she’s too good for this, Tammy grumbled. Maggie seemed to think of herself as Chef not Cook. No chopping, slicing, dicing for her, no siree! Heaven forbid Maggie actually wash some dirty dishes.  That was for Tammy to do.

(This is a work of fiction. While much of the story occurs at a real place (Middle Bass Island), the names, characters, and incidents are either the product of the Rally Chairs’ imagination or are used fictitiously, and any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, business establishments, or events is entirely coincidental.)
