The 2025 Lake Erie Rally, June 13th – June 15th, with early bird arrival on Thursday, June 12, will be a Murder Mystery weekend.

Andy Tonkin arrived at the Sinclair summer house early afternoon.  He’d already been to three other houses on the island to clean their pools. He liked to leave this one for the afternoon hoping he’d get a chance to see the kitchen girl, Tammy, when she arrived to help in the kitchen. He was chagrined to see her vehicle already parked nearby. Darn it! She’d probably be stuck in the kitchen the whole time he was outside cleaning the pool. Just in case she looked out the window, he took off his t-shirt to show off his six-pack abs and finger-combed his hair before heading to the shed for the pool chemicals.

“Could I have a word with you?” inquired Carstairs.

Andy was startled; he hadn’t heard Carstairs approaching. “Uhh, yes, sir.” he replied.

“The master is having some kind of get-together on Friday, the 13th. I know it’s short notice, but I hope you will be able to do a bit of extra work for it.”

“Extra work? Whaddya mean? How much is he gonna pay me?”  Andy wiped sweat from his chest.

Carstairs inwardly winced. Remaining dignified, he said “It is not difficult. You’d merely have to stand at the end of the driveway, and valet park the guests’ vehicles in the field down the road. Of course you’d bring the vehicles back when they departed.

“Well, sure I can do that.  Like I said, though, how much is he gonna pay me for it?”

“I am sure the master would properly reward your efforts.  I have no doubt he would include some extra in your weekly pay on Friday.”  Carstairs’ face remained impassive despite how disgusted he felt by the young man’s greedy questioning. He could almost see the wheels turn in Andy’s small brain, calculating what he might get out of the evening.

Not only were wheels turning, but light bulbs were going off inside Andy as he thought about what women might be arriving, what they would be wearing, their jewels, and what HE should be wearing to catch their eye to get the best tips. Tamping down his excitement, he asked Carstairs what time he should report for duty on Friday.

Chrissie Scarlett set down the bourbon and plopped into the lounge chair beside the pool. It was 5 o’clock somewhere, right?!  “Dang right it is!” she thought to herself, adding more ice and bourbon to the glass.  She had been shopping earlier in the day when that dreadful Candy Peacock had mispronounced her name, “Chrissie Starlett”.  As usual, Ms. Peacock tittered her stupid girlish giggle (really, Candy’s got to be 50 at least!) and apologized in her little girl high pitched voice, “Oh, I’m so sorry I keep doing that.  I remember the days when you were a Hollywood starlet and it always slips out of my mouth.”

Chrissie frowned mightily as she took a hefty swig of bourbon.  “I bet it just slips out of her mouth”, she muttered.  Not that Chrissie didn’t like being a starlet years ago. It was just that, well, it was years ago. Hollywood and LA were light years away from this Ohio town. Back then the lights, the people, everything had been brighter. The stories were scandalous. Many better left forgotten. Chrissie needed them to remain forgotten and buried in her past.  She had no desire to see any of those people ever again.  They knew too much.  She knew too much about them.  Yes, definitely better to let that go and forget about the time when she was Scarlett, the starlet. She finished the drink and poured another.

(This is a work of fiction. While much of the story occurs at a real place (Middle Bass Island), the names, characters, and incidents are either the product of the Rally Chairs’ imagination or are used fictitiously, and any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, business establishments, or events is entirely coincidental.)

On Friday the 13th a body is found on Middle Bass Island. Who is it? How did this happen?  Whodunnit?  Can you solve the mystery?

We hope you join us in June for our GLCC Lake Erie Rally. The registration fee for this fun filled weekend is $126 (USD) and early bird Thursday is an additional $18 (USD).  See more details on the registration page.

Dress up as your favorite sleuth, victim, or villain.  There will be prizes for the games, costume contest, and of course, for the person(s) who figures out how and whodunit.
