English is full of nautical slang.  Many phrases and sayings that we use every day in the 21st Century have a nautical origin from the seafaring days of old. You might already be using many of these in your everyday conversations and not know the true meaning behind them.  In fact, many nautical terms come from the British Royal Navy, where words and phrases were created to describe equipment or procedures onboard ships.

So, just how nautical are you?  Join Steve Wyckoff as he presents Common Phrases with Nautical Origins and find out if you are a Landlubber, Deck Hand, or an Old Salt.

Steve Wyckoff is the past Commodore of the Traverse City Yacht Club at the very heart of Grand Traverse Bay. Steve and his wife Deborah have sailed throughout Northern Lake Michigan, the North Channel, the Caribbean and the Pacific Northwest. Steve is a member of the GLCCSchool production team and frequent presenter for the GLCCSchool.
