Here’s an opportunity to explore Bay City, Mich. (H-61), a historically important port with many tastefully decorated and affordable, locally owned establishments. After this relaxing and social weekend, it just may become one of your favorite cruising destinations! Detailed flyers will be provided highlighting several boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, cocktail bars, antique shops, and art galleries to visit, all within walking distance of the DoubleTree by Hilton! All parking in Bay City is easy and free. Casual dress all weekend, including the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club (SBYC).
Friday, April 19
We have a hospitality “hang out” room (The Wenonah Room) on the top floor of the DoubleTree, with panorama views of our city’s waterfront from 1700 until 2330, just down the hall from your rooms. Come in and registrar here, and BYOB. Light hors d’oeuvres will begin your evening. You can stay the entire time to visit, play cards, plan cruising schedules together, even order a take-out meal if you want! However, for dinner, you are encouraged to walk a couple blocks to discover several restaurant/bar choices. Maybe even take in a Planetarium show a block away! From 2030-2230, we will have a variety of dessert selections and live, relaxing music entertainment.
Saturday, April 20
0800-0900 Continental breakfast will be served before the 0900 GLCC Board meeting. You may stay if you’d like to sit in on the meeting. Lunch suggestions will be provided.
1330-1500 A leisure walking tour along the riverfront, guided by our museum historian (If inclement weather, the historical museum will be opened just for our group.)
1600 Cocktails begin at the SBYC, the second oldest yacht club in Michigan outside of Detroit, established in 1894. By car, 4.4 miles away. Cash bar.
1715 Listen/view a short presentation about the significance of the Saginaw River.
1800 Dinner followed by a local comedian who will shed light on some Michigan and boater quirks. Plated dinners along with all-you-can-eat soup/salad bar. An early finale here allows you to go back into Bay City to pick another restaurant/bar to end your evening with your favorite dessert or night cap.
Sunday, April 21
Breakfast on your own. The DoubleTree offers a nice breakfast. A list and map will be provided of other locally owned popular breakfast establishments. The Edson, a U.S. Navy Destroyer, is open from 9am-5pm to tour on your own.
