One often wonders what they could realistically do to personally help during the current COVID-19 crisis. We've just learned of one such opportunity for us cruising boaters.
Sailcrafters, a sail loft in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, has temporarily shifted its business from making sails to making face shields for medical personnel for as long as needed. In the few days since starting this effort they are already producing over 1000 face shields per day! And that’s just the start.
Tim Carlson, owner of Sailcrafters, is asking the sailing community for financial contributions to aid in this effort. They have purchased materials to produce 20,000/month and will continue at that rate as needed. Their current anticipated out-of-pocket expenditures are $80,000; $25,000 of which has been raised by contributions to date. Sailcrafters is asking for monetary contributions to help with this effort. Should you wish to contribute, please mail your gift to Sailcrafters at 7450 Oxford Street, St. Louis Park, MN 55426, or click https://www.sailcrafters.com/pay-online and key in “Covid-19 with your name” in the invoice box.
Note that Sailcrafters is not a non-profit, so your financial support is a gift/a contribution, not a donation, meaning the benefit to you is feeling that you're doing something good in this time of national need.
If you live in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and would like to volunteer your time to help with this project, please call Tim at Sailcrafters - 952-693-6089. Together we CAN make a difference.
