Older EPIRBs Phased Out

If you have an older EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) operating on 121.5 or 243 MHz, you'll have to deep-six it. Satellites will cease monitoring those frequencies next February 1, 2009. They will need to be replaced by the newer 406 MHz EPIRBs. To prepare for the switch, the FCC has prohibited the use of 121.5 EPIRBs. See the details from the Coast Guard here...
