Since you posted this under the webinar which I just presented, I should at least respond. I am not aware of a formal GLCC role in rating services of various providers. It is an interesting question, though. I would suggest that you might want to contact the Executive Committee for an answer as I am not aware of any other committee that might handle this specific question. Rich Fink

Is there a GLCC role, a la Consumer Reports, in rating the service provided by marinas and boat yards? In the just concluded boating season I incurred substantial expense to repair a diesel-fired heater that was improperly installed three years ago. The installer initially ignored and later rejected my request that it reimburse my costs. I filed a small claims action, leading to a change of heart. I now have been reimbursed in full for my repair costs (though not, of course, for the many hours it took me to document and file the claim).

I pay good money every year for repair, maintenance, and related costs at yards and marinas. I am not a DIYer. I need and value the support of reliable, competent mechanics, painters, etc. If marinas and yards knew that GLCC members were watching and rating them I believe the boating community (and the good service providers) would benefit. I recognize there are liability considerations that could be involved in any GLCC effort to evaluate service providers. Perhaps this is an item that Club officers might consider.
