2018 Lake Superior Rally

     The Great Lakes Cruising Club will hold the 2018 Lake Superior Rally at Port Superior Marina & Pike's Bay Marinas (S-192.5). Rally arrival day is Friday, August 17, and departure day is Sunday, August 19. The official start date is Friday, August 17, but many of us are arriving on Thursday, August 16 to take advantage of more fun! Read on!
     The theme for this year’s rally is Friends-Ships. Renewing old friendships and making new friends is always the highlight of a rally. For off-site activities, transportation will be arranged for those without cars.

     Before the rally you will want to reserve a slip at either Port Superior (715-779-5360) or Pike’s Bay (715-779-3900) Marina. They have offered us a great rate of $1 USD/foot.

Friday, Aug. 17
    0800 Welcome breakfast of rolls, juice and coffee (gluten free available). Announcements.

    0900 Hike to Houghton Falls: Time to shake off the sea legs and take a beautiful walk to Houghton
Falls. We’ll carpool to the trailhead. A gentle 1.3 mile walk (round trip) will allow you to enter a hemlock and cedar forest. You’ll pass through Echo Dells and down to the Lake Superior shore, where you can sit on a rock or
wade in the water. It’s always different and spectacular!

    1200 Recipe contest: Oh NO! The Fridge is on the Fritz! What will we eat? competition.
To the Port Superior clubhouse, bring your best creations created from shelf stable ingredients, whether it be a main dish, hors d’oeuvres, or dessert. However, don’t let others know that it is YOUR creation! We will all feast on these unbelievable culinary marvels! A secret vote will follow. Prizes will be awarded!

1300 Official registration
1430 Orchard trip: Got a craving for some fresh Bayfield Blueberries or some local wine? A scenic excursion leaves from outside the Port Superior ship’s store. Lots of fun! Join us! (volunteer transport)
1700 Evening at the Raspberry Lighthouse of the Woods: Gather together at the home of Port Captains Paul and Paula Lundberg to feast on pulled pork, brown beans, bacon broccoli salad, potato salad and ice cream bars. Follow this up with games of croquet or Bocci ball and/or indoor games from raucous to sedate. Campfire at dark. Guitar anyone????? BYOB (Dinner cost is covered by your rally charge.) (volunteer transport)

Saturday, Aug. 18
0800 Pancake breakfast: Fabulous, fantastic Officers’ breakfast at Pike’s Bay clubhouse. On the menu are pancakes, hash browns, sausage, juice and coffee. Gluten free available. Fun and commeraderie for all!
0930 Port Captains’ meeting
1030 Fire extinguisher demo: Safety meeting—featuring FIRE Safety on boats, with information about, demonstration of and hands-on use of fire extinguishers. This will be an outreach to all marina members from Port Superior or Pike’s Bay.
1200 Lunch on your own or perhaps small groups want to travel to Bayfield to get a bite.
1330 Boat tours: Open house on participant’s boats. Have you always wanted to see what other boats are like? This is your chance At registration you will be given the option to open your boat or not.
1700 Cocktail hour at the Port Superior Clubhouse. There will be a cash bar. (credit cards accepted)
1800 Dinner at Port Superior: It includes choices of: Queen-sized prime rib, Broiled or deep fried whitefish, Pasta with choice of added steak, shrimp,chicken or veggies. All entrees come with bread, salad, dessert (Fresh berry pie or Chocolate lava cake), coffee or tea.

Sunday, Aug. 19
0800 Farewell breakfast of winebread (a local delicacy), fruit, juice and coffee including lots of hugs and “see you soons.”

Included in the fee are Breakfast Saturday and Sunday morning, Dinner Friday evening (BYOB) and Dinner Saturday evening (Cash bar/Credit cards accepted).
