Yvonne J. Hoag, 87, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family February 2, 2013.   For many years she was an active member of the Saginaw Bay  Yacht Club, the Great Lakes Cruising Club and the Saginaw Bay Power Squadron.  Yvonne, and her beloved dog Cyrus were a familiar sight on the Great Lakes aboard  her yacht Delphinus, a beautiful 44’ diesel powered Bayliner  double cabin.   In 1995, Yvonne was the first women to be presented the Admiral Bayfield Award of the Great Lakes Cruising Club in recognition of her extensive cruising on the Great Lakes.  She was an accomplished yachtsman, having cruised the north shore of Lake Superior single handedly.  For 10 years she organized the “cruising pets” contest at the annual rendezvous of the GLCC.

Yvonne was a very energetic person from the time she was employed as a welder in a San Diego  defense plant .  Most of her professional career was with the Dow Chemical Company in a variety of positions.  She was an avid skier, great conversationalist and had a abiding interest in native American people and their culture.  She will be greatly missed in the boating community

We met with Yvonne in many anchorages and ports over the years, from Georgian Bay to Lake Superior.
A great lady -- we`ll miss her.
