In the hope that some are checking this board while on their summer cruise to the North Channel, I thought I would add a note about the marina in Spanish. While driving back along highway 17 two weeks ago, I dropped into the marina to check out water depths and I found good news I thought I would share. The harbour master reports that water levels in the marina are up about a foot from last summer, and reports a minimum 6' up the channel, 6-5 at the fuel dock, and 6-8 at the slips. I spoke to a 35' sailboat skipper ( draws 5') who was at the dock, and he told me he did not see less than 6 ' up the middle of the channel, no problems. The marina is up forsale, but open and eagre for business. Watch for the obstruction reported in the harbour report, though. There is a B&B there who will prepare a great breakfast, with a reservation the night before. Up on the highway, the market, hardware, licquor stores are open for business. Spnaish is well placed at the foot of the Whalesback channel for alternate services to Gore Bay or Little Current.
