The Great Lakes Cruising Club cordially invites you to attend the 2017 Wilderness Rally at Harbor Island (NC-2). The rally will begin June 28 and end July 1, 2017. Departure day will be July 2, 2017. The late June and early July dates make the Wilderness Rally the perfect season kickoff event. All boats attending the 2017 GLCC Rendezvous in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (M-72.5) and transiting from waters other than Lake Michigan will have to travel in close proximity to Harbor Island, site of the Wilderness Rally. This makes the 2017 Wilderness Rally the perfect “stopover” event on your passage west. Please click here to read more.
The 2017 GLCC Rendezvous will be held in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin (M-72.5) this July 9–13. Sturgeon Bay is a popular summer destination with lots to see and places visit. It is a ship-building center steeped in Great Lakes yachting, maritime history and is the gateway to fabled upper Door County, nestled between Lake Michigan and the protected waters of Green Bay. Official-Looking Vessel Documentation Renewal Notices Can Lead to Confusion and Higher Costs. Our Thanks to Port Captain Denny Dutcher (West Harbor, Ohio E-16.8) for bringing this to our attention! ALEXANDRIA, VA, April 6, 2017 – Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) Consumer Protection Department is advising boaters with vessels having a US Coast Guard Certificate of Documentation to be wary of any letter arriving by US mail offering renewal. An increasing number of BoatUS members have complained that these letters direct them to websites that may be mistaken for the actual US Coast Guard Vessel Documentation Center located in Falling Waters, West Virginia, and appear to show a significant increase in the annual fee to renew US Coast Guard (USCG) documentation. Please click here to read this press release on the BoatUS website. The USCG web site is https://www.uscg.mil/nvdc/
