Leland Harbor Dredging in Jeopardy

According to the Leelnau News, there is serious concern the entrance to Leland Harbor (M-14) will not be dredged in 2011, because federal funding may not be available. This very important harbor of refuge has needed dredging on an annual basis, and it is estimated 20,000 cubic yards of sand currently needs to be removed. We have been into Leland several times in the spring before it has been dredged and have not had a problem. It's been very narrow and 7-8 ft but has been marked with temp bouys. Also, you can always call Russ (Harbormaster),and he will give you the straight scoop.
