Assuming all goes well with our boat purchase, we will close on an Alberg 35 on northern Lake Michigan, and sail her home to Grand Marais Minnesota. I am considering retracing the steps of Douglas Houghton in his historic 1840's voyage. Otherwise we will just follow our noses as contented cruisers. We will touch upon the Macanac area, the Sault (Our second time) and either the south or North Shores of Lake Superior on our way home. We may peek in to the North Channel along the way. We love making friends and we love cruising. We lived aboard our 35 foot sloop "Snow Day" for 5 years and left Duluth in 2000 and sailed to Honduras and back. It will be good to be back in the saddle. All advise is appreciated. Thank you. Todd and Susan Miller soon to be S/V White Star.

SV Peregrine will be departing Eagle Harbor about June 26th for about a month cruising along the south share enroute to the Apostles then north to Grand Marais and subsequently along the Canadian shore east and south to Otter Island. Returning along same route and Isle Royale to Eagle Harbor about July 31st. (All obviously subject to weather.) Will return to the lake about August 8th for another five weeks along the Canadian shore. Look forward to sharing anchorages with Superior adventurers.

I just want to say thanks - the Harbor Reports were great to have, and it was great meeting some of the GLCC members.
We have Irish Rover tucked into her berth in Duluth, but wish we were still cruising!

In addition to the charts and Bonnie's book, we also have the NOAA Coast Pilot 6. The GLCC harbor reports seem extremely helpful and thanks, Niels, for pointing out the South Shore Overview. We are excited about this trip and will keep an eye out for all of you, Todd & Susan, and Ron. Chances are good that we will attend the Superior Rally. Happy sails to you!

I'm glad you found the South Shore Overview helpful. BTW, note the recent postings about the lift bridge at Houghton-Hancock. Due to construction, the times it opens up have been reduced. Fortunately, you can tie up at the Houghton City Dock and wait until its scheduled opening times.
Hope to see you at the Lake Superior Rally.

We are also planning a summer cruise to move our "new" good old boat (Bristol 35.5) to it's new home in Duluth. We'll be leaving Door Peninsula around the 4th of July and heading to Beaver Is., Macinac, up the river to the Soo Locks and along the S. shore of Superior. Any advice send our way or give us a call if you see us :-)

Hey there, looks like our paths are going to cross. We will take possession of the boat on the 30th, and start cruising. We will watch for you on this site, and listen on the VHF. Our cell is 218-370-2026. Todd and Susan Miller. PS, I think your Bristol and our Alberg 35 are very similar? Both Albergs? Cheers.

If you haven't already done so, you might want to take a look at the S-00 South Shore Overview. It was written up for the 2007 Rendezvous at Barkers Island, but is generally current. And if the timing works out for you, please feel free to attend the Lake Superior Rally at Madeline Island Aug. 7-9. It's always a fun event.

Thanks Niels, I will look in to that. We would like to make the Rendezvous. We will have to see how the schedule works. It would be a fun way to meet the members. We have taken about 4 years off from cruising but it is still in our blood and we are once again answering the call. Cheers, Todd Miller

Our (very tentative) plan at this time is to leave Cheboygan, MI, about June 25 and head for Lake Superior. We'll likely stop at Government Bay, Harbor Island, perhaps a few Canadian anchorages (Milford Haven), then up the St. Mary's to the Soo, and on into Lake Superior. After that, everything is even more tentative.
Call us on the VHF if you're in our vicinity.

Thanks Ron, we would like to meet you. I will look in to those destinations. I still need to figure out how to get the cruising info from this site. I am sure it is not difficult. I assume that the GLCC info and a good chart are about all there is, other then Bonnie Dahl's book. Am I correct? Todd and Susan Miller.

Yes, good charts, Bonnie's book, and the GLCC harbor reports are all you'll need. We'll look and listen for you on the way. Our plans are still very tentative.
