How do I obtain RNC's for Canadian Waters?

I am in the process of updating my charts for the coming season.  My laptop based chart plotter utlizes Raster Navigation Charts (RNCs).   Is there an update facility available for the Canadian RNCs?  If not what is the best way to obtain new Charts?

I have an older version of a CD that contains chrts of Lake Huron, including Georgian Bay and the North Channel.  The disc dates from the days when distribution of Canadian electronic charts was in the hands of a private company and quite expensive. The USA distributes RNCs for free on the web and I will routinely update my charts each season.  How can i most effectively do this for Canadian Waters?

Thanks for making my cruising safer,

Steve Freitas

I just recently updated my several-years-old Canadian charts. Basically, you have to re-buy the charts. CHS gives you free updates for 1 year after purchase, but after that you have to buy the whole package again. They have also recently re-packaged the charts, so you get a different set on each CD-ROM than was the case several years ago.

I could only find them (in the U.S.) at Landfall Navigation and West Marine. West Marine had them on back-order a couple weeks ago.

Here's the e-mail reply I got from CHS regarding updating, Feb. 5:

Hello Mr. Dwelle,

In order recieve updates for your 2007 CDs, you would have to purchase them again. Once you register the new CD, you will be sent an email with download information so that you can get your updates from our ftp site. The updates will be accessible for 12 months from the date you register CD.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
