Bay City Ship to Become Chicago Preserve
The 100-foot USS Dexter, built in 1925 as a rum-runner patrol boat, will be scuttled off Chicago to become an underwater diver's site this fall. The photo shows the Dexter being launched at Defoe Shipbuilders in Bay City, Michigan. Among other things, she created an international incident with Canada in 1929. Newspaper story here...
New Coast Guard Boat
The U. S. Coast Guard has begun taking delivery of their new "Response Boat-Medium," or RB-M, a 44-footer which will replace their existing multi-mission 41-footers. They will receive 180 of these boats over the next 7 years. The first one in the Great Lakes will be stationed in Milwaukee, arriving October 24, 2008. Details are here...

New EPA Rules to Affect Boat Motors
New Environmental Protection Agency rules will affect gasoline boat motors, as well as lawnmowers and other small engines, beginning in 2010. Read the EPA announcement.... And here is a news story on the new regulations...
