Are you looking for a diversion from your winter wonderland? The Cleveland Mid-America Boat Show is sure to keep the boating season in mind and prepare you for the good times ahead. It will take place at the I-X Center in Cleveland, Ohio on January 16-20, 2014.

Thanks to a handful of our wonderful volunteers, GLCC will have a booth where attendees can learn about our friendly club and a chance to partake in all the fun things that we’re about. Mark Gagyi, Jim Erhman & Rich Barzyk will present an intriguing boating seminar entitled, Great Ports on a Great Lake. We really hope to see you there! Please visit the Mid-America Boat Show website here for more information on this once a year event!

Sheila and I stopped by the booth and met Hart and Sherry. As newer members we enjoyed chatting briefly about the club. We are looking forward to the rendezvous this summer and to meeting more members. Sadly, the boat show was a disappointment. I remember back to the first year the show was at the IX Center. I was selling Tanzer sailboats part time. The show covered the Center's entire 1 million square feet. There were hundreds of larger power and sail boats to explore and dream about. This year the show covered 50% of IX Center and there were only a hand full of cruisable power boats, and two larger sailboats. The number of vendor booths was also significantly down. We didn't even see the venerable chamois guy. It's a sad circumstance for a once-prominent show. Guess we'll be heading to Annapolis or Chicago next year to fulfill our annual boat show pilgrimage.
